Hello! My name is Jeroen den Hartog. Since the early days of stable internet in the early 2000s, I have been passionately involved in the gaming community.
In pre-school I already enjoyed learning Dutch and English and writing/reading stories, and it was even more awesome to discover that you can experience stories by playing through them, thanks to video games. Therefore, visiting aunts and uncles was never a chore: it meant I could play some Super Nintendo or Game Boy. Later on, we got our very own Nintendo 64 in our household. The minute I heard that gaming magazines were a thing, I knew my answer to that typical "what do you want to be when you grow up" question.
The Internet came along, and on a voluntary base, I wrote articles for various gaming websites. My professional path started a few years later as an editor-in-chief for a Dutch gaming website and magazine. This role honed my editorial skills and deepened my knowledge of the gaming world.
Following this, I spent nearly a decade organizing and managing physical gaming events. These events spanned professional gaming/esports tournaments, cosplay shows, casual gaming, B2B networking events, and content creator spaces featuring Twitch streamers, YouTubers, and influencers. Events were primarily held in The Netherlands, but especially the esports tournaments and cosplay shows also had me travel outside of The Netherlands and even outside of Europe to Asia.
For the majority of these events, I was involved from inception to execution. I created event concepts and planned all the event's content, wrote sponsor proposals, reached out to potential sponsors (including gaming peripheral companies, game publishers, IT companies, and hardware companies), and managed several voluntary teams, like esports tournament hosts, stagehands, security, first aid staff, and more.
Most recently, I have been acting as a Senior Community Manager with extensive experience in managing communities for MMORPGs, Action RPGs, MOBAs, and casual games for all popular platforms. My role involves organizing online events, collaborating closely with content creators on platforms like Twitch, YouTube, and TikTok, gathering and acting on community feedback, and generally ensuring active and engaged gaming communities. Additionally, this position also gave me some leading roles in projects, like determining community strategies for upcoming projects, task distribution, and managing Customer Support teams for several games to improve the quality of player assistance.
Because it all began with voluntary work, even today I am enjoying my work. I have done way more things than I wanted to do initially, but all with the right motivation and a "woah this is actually cool"-mindset. Of course, I have plenty of other interests, like rock music, LEGO, all those epic TV shows we have nowadays, escape rooms, traveling, and whatnot, but professionally I would always try to go back to video games.
I obviously don't know what the future has in store for me, but perhaps you have an idea. If you're interested in reaching out to me, you can click the button below to go to my contact page.
